I just bought a Linksys printer server PSUS4 to use in the office to share the printer.

My problem is I can not connect my printer (HP officejet 6100) with the properly printer driver. I try to connect with the HP generic officejet driver but the printer will not function properly, only print black and white.

My question is how to solve my problem

    PSUS4 & hp printing software

I also tried networking HP officejet k80xi using PSUS4. I spent several days trying to make the printserver work... The printserver indicated it was connected to the printer, however it wasn't printing test pages, etc.
I believe the problem was in the HP software.

The HP OfficeJet sofware was maintaining a constant two way communication between my PC & the printer/scanner/fax (via USB). It would tell me if it was out of paper, low on toner, etc. I ended up eBaying the PSUS4 and buying an HP jetdirect 300 (used parallel cable to printer).

I downloaded all of the jetdirect software from the HP site. The JetDirect hardware was able to maintain the two-way connection over the network (as HP designed the software to support that print server).

FYI: I was able to pickup the jetdirect server (eBay) for about the same price as I ebayed the PSUS4.

if the printer is an all in one like a printer scanner copier etc it most likely will not work (correctly or at all) with your printserver. because they dont just use regular drivers. another user posted a thread in which linksys tech support was called and a definitive answer was given. i am not sure what it had said but search for it.

I had the same problem with PSUS4 and the HP OfficeJet 6100
Installing the HP DeskJet 990c driver did resolve the problem for printing.

As t4thfavor has stated, all-in-ones such as the Office Jets really dont like being networked in that way. HP's drivers seem to use a convoluted system which makes it as hard as possible
