I've decided to take the WRT54GS v6 back to the store. I'd like to return the store a working router.. however this thing just isn't taking the linksys flash.

I installed dd-wrt v23 micro generic on my v6 following the instructions at and everything went smooth.

I've tried to follow the reversion instructions at that site with no luck at all. Currently my WRT54GS v6 is still on, flashing power, no telnet, and in Management Mode. This was all after the automatic process left me virtually locked out and I had to go in through telnet and manually flash through the openwrt script. New MAC1, MAC2, and SERIAL installed ready to flash the newest factory Linksys firmware and it won't work.. I don't know what's going on but this is supposed to be the easy part right..? HELP!

I'd really like to return this WRT54GS v6 tomorrow morning and I prefer good karma.

thanks. i was really excited to see something different but his steps didn't work for me. when i try to flash with TFTP on the second page it cannot find host. i can ping the router and I even changed to 10 half duplex..

His method is the same as the bitsum Wiki just much more user friendly way of explaining.. it's manual mode.

The only thing it might be is that his instrutions and files are fore the WRT54G v5/v6 and I have a WRT54GS v6.. I need the file from the Wiki (openwrt_wrt54gs_squashfs.bin) but it doesn't work. :frown:

WRT54GS v6 fully supported but no reversion *2

*2 Technically speaking, you can use the WRT54G reversion firmware on a WRT54GS. However, your unit will then believe its a WRT54G and accept WRT54G firmwares.

you therefore have no option. you upgraded to ddwrt when there was no reserveable way back to vxworks GS v6.0

did you not read the text about what is supported and was is not?

i did earlier on.. but there was a section for it so I figured it would work. the file existed at one point.. as to why he took it down I don't know.

I appreciate your help thus far, but I still cannot TFTP the proper file over..

    go to your TCP/IP Properties>General tab>"Use the following IP address">Set "IP Address =", "Subnet mask=", "Default Gateway="

then try tftp the file again
