Hey, i am running dd-wrt v23sp2 on my linksys wrt54g router, i recently attempted to configure qos so i can have utorrent or ares on in the background, while i surf the net, basically i want a good download speed for either application but not to hog my normal surfing. I set up the qos using the tuts, i have set ares and utorrent as bulk and http as standard

I have a 4meg connection with 256kb up, so i put 200 in upload and 4000 in download.

Problem is when ares is downloading i cant surf the net, i get timeouts etc
I think i might have done something wrong, but just wanted some help on what the best settings for qos are on my connection

I have not used that firmware so i can only speak in terms of general QOS. As a whole what you have done is given those applications total control of the connection. You have merely left yourself 56k up and virtually no down. Depending how QOS works on that particular firmware you would experience exactly what you are seeing. Now to test, simply leave QOS the same but turn off the programs in question or the computer hosting the programs. If your internet is restored that is exactly what is happening. If it is not restored then QOS on that firmware is a quaranteed bandwidth QOS and you will have to rethink what you are trying to do and better limit the up and down load bandwidth so you leave other hosts enough to not get timeouts.
