I need to replace a router that is running tomato 1.28 toastman build. with a router that's running a newer tomato shibby build. Can i pull the cfg from the old router and apply it to the new one? I have about 25 devices with dns and static entries that would be nice to just carry over instead of re configuring .

No, you should not use the backup/restore configuration file when going between firmwares or firmware versions.

You need to write down all the settings in the GUI which you've changed, and then manually re-enter those after you've switched/upgraded firmwares. I also recommend checking the "After flashing, erase all data in NVRAM memory" option during the upgrade.

Toastman has a link post here somewhere that explains the procedure more eloquently.
