I would like to know if the TFTP unbrick method also works when you are upgrading from the original Linksys firmware to a 3rd party firmware, and your router gets bricked.

Does the original Linksys firmware have a built-in TFTP server?

There is a "window" of opportunity to tftp firmware at boot time regardless of the firmware used, it is built into the unit.

Once the unit is up and running, both linksys and most 3rd party firmwares have tftpd running to upload another firmware.
