Is is possible to setup one WRT54G to act as a wireless repeater with any AP (non-WDS capable).

I can successfully use my WRT54G in client mode with the other AP, but I would like to be able to connect wirelessly to my WRT54G. I do not wish to buy a second WRT54G.

    The other AP is a D-Link DI-714P+ and I have a V.2 WRT54G

    No, you cannot do that.

How do you expect to repeat signal without WDS protocols to have the peer units handle the traffic?

You can of course run an ethernet wire from LAN to LAN port and setup a plain old roaming AP infrastructure. Many people do this.
