Hi, I recently bought a rv042 and I set it up with load balancing and 2 dsl lines and I have 20 pc clients in the lan. (I don't use vpn)

The problem is the the download speed is very slow. If a use just one dsl modem I get better speeds.

Another example of the problem is that is some clients (7-8 pcs) play an online game and one is downloading then there is lag on the pcs that play the game.

    Can anyone help me please?

try using the protocol binding feature to lock down some protocols to either WAN1 or WAN2 to see if that helps.

DLS lines... slow speed... have you checked the MTU setting on the "Firewall->General" tab?

RV042 sets the MTU for both lines at the same time. Set then to manual 1492.

Another check is to shut down one line (set the RV042 mode) by setting it to line backup and not load balance. If things improve, check the reverse (invert the main and backups in the RV042 settings).

I have noticed that when one line is going bad, but not as bad as to be dropped by the router, service tend to become unreliable. The router cannot determine that there is a bad line (the checks eventually succeed on a retry).

I tried mtu=1492 but then there was no internet access for the clients pcs.
Everything I try with this router I lost internet access or veeeeery slow internet.

go into the qos.htm and setup bandwidth allocations for the gamers protocols they use and set and max/min speed. unfortunately lag is set by priorities as well and the RV042 only allows Priorities of bandwidths on LAN ports. (normal/High) you could put all the gamers on one LAN port and give them High Priority (port Management) and see if that helps.

I'm considering to remove the rv042 from the lan. I think it is not suitable for what I want to do and it is better to use it if want to have vpn connections and a backup adsl line.

I will use the 2 adsl modems without the rv042 and I will use the half pcs with gateway-dns of the first modem and the other half pcs to the second modem, until I find a permanent solution.

Is there any other linksys router for what I want to do e.g load balance all the pcs??

Other routers with load balancing share most of the firmware. You may try the RV082. It's bigger and pricier.

However I think you can use protocol binding to ensure that gaming goes thru one route while the downloads will come the other way. The rest you will leave to the router to decide based on the current load.

On the other hand, combining on-line gaming, that requires low latency, with downloading of large files is always a challenge.
