I have a Linksys RV042 at my location and I am setting up a Gateway-to-Gateway VPN with a Sonicwall router. They connect fine, but I cannot ping anything on the remote LAN. I also cannot use Terminal Services to get access to any machines on that LAN. I had this set up before with a Cisco firewall, but that is out of commision right now, and we have switched to a DSL connection.

    Here is the setup...

    Office1( Moem(PPPoE) Bridged---------Internet--------Sonicwall VPN Router--Office2(

When connected I cannot ping anything on the network. It has to be either the Linksys or my Motorola DSL modem. These are the only things that have changed. Should I try to get access to the DSL Modem and see if there is a firewall turned on? I know it has that feature, but I thought it would bypass it in Bridge Mode.

    Thanks for all your help.

Well, now we have found the problem sort of....

When the vpn connects, it causes the Sonicwall router to lock up and must be rebooted to start working again. Should I update the Linksys to the newest version that is on the web? Right now it is running

It is like it overloads the sonicwall or something.

Also, if I update the firmware, does it go to default settings? And is it a good idea to apply this using remote web management?

I prefer to reset a router after a firmware upgrade since some changes on new firmware can create problems. it also gets you accustomed to all the settings. You should be able to upgrade remotely ok but if you run into problems after upgrading you may need to reset the router back to factory defaults.

you mention your not able to ping anything. what are you trying to ping? default gateway? PC? what?

The newest firmware did the trick!
