I have an RV042 with firmware loaded. I have set up a quickvpn account and successfully connected from a remote location. The subnet in the remote location is and on the lan side of the rv042 is Once connected I can ping any computer on the network using the IP address or the computer's name. I can also use remote desktop connection and access computers by ip address or name.

I am unable to access other computer's shared folders though. For instance, a computer with an ip address of and whose name is "george". If I type in \\george or \\ I get an error that says the computer can not be found. Also no other computers appear in the network neighborhood except for the local computers on the clients side. There is a wins server on the lan side of the router. The computers get its ip address through dhcp from the router. When I vpn in the client computer does not get this address, and I have tried typing it in manually, but to no avail. If I make manual entries into the HOSTS file I still get the same error message about not being able to find the comptuer.

Has anyone else experienced this, found a solution, or have any suggestions. Like I said everything seems to work fine, except for browsing other computers. Thanks in advance for any help.

You might want to go back and make sure the share names and permissions are correct to include DNS being configured on the machines in question.

    Hi vetteman,

Have you managed to solve the problem?
We have exactly the same problem at with the QuickVPN connection to a RV082 in our office (Win2k server).
This has been discussed in previous topics below
but until know I have not succeeded.
We are working on it and will post the solution as soon as / if we find any.
Unfortunately this seems to be above my level of computing so if any have this type of connection running it would be interesting to share this experience.

At least we can already access the exchange-server with our outlook clients over QuickVPN. :)

It is also, as mentioned before, possible to access shared folders on the Win2k server in explorer, tools/connect network unit and
\\ip-address\map-name using another authorized username and pwd than locally logged in with.

(have now installed firmware and router is running as stable as earlier with

Can access shared folders from XP but not from 2000

I have exactly the same problem on a Win 2000 machine.

I have absolutly no problem to access my shared folder with XP but with Win 2000, I get: Windows cannot find \\10.1.1.x

I can ping the server and I get a result from it.

Any reason why it doesn't work???

    It is really anoying...
