    Hey there,

I am experiencing an unusual problem with a Linksys RV082 router and a 2Wire 2701 series DSL modem.

I have the 2Wire DSL modem configured as a bridge - all routing functions are disabled - and connected the RV082 (DHCP disabled.)

The problem I am having is that when the DSL modem loses power, the RV082 is not able to connect to the WAN IP (public) address. You can reboot the modem and router in any sequence all day long and the router will never connect to the DSL modem.

However, if I connect a laptop to the modem, wait a minute or so, then reconnect the ethernet cable back to the RV082 it is able to connect the WAN IP.

It's as if connecting the laptop to the DSL modem triggers something on the modem that then enables the Linksys router to connect. I have been able to recreate this numerous times.

Any ideas what the problem is here? Is it a setting on the Linksys or on the DSL modem? Thanks for any suggestions!

Where is your PPPoE being done from?

PPPoE is being done on the Linksys.

I have a RV016 with a cable modem, DSL and KR1 wireless modem/router. The KR1 can boot anytime without any problems. But to pull an IP from my cable modem and DSL, I have to boot the RV16, wait till it's up, then boot the cable modem and DSL after the RV16 is up. Seems to be something with the way the RV16 polls the modems. I would try powering down everything, boot the RV16, wait 10 minutes, then boot the DSL modem.
