I understand that there is a 4,000 tcp connection limit to the rv082 - where if there is more than that the linksys router can reboot itself. Does anyone know if one could increase this limit? Does the new beta firmware address this? Thanks!

Where did you get the limit of 4000 connections?

The Edge-core VR-100 is an an identical clone of the RV082 in appearance and capabilities although it only claims a maximum one-way throughput of 100 mbps so it may be using an older firmware version than the 1.3.2 equivalent on the RV082. http://www.edge-core.com/edge/produ...item_pic=N2Z5Z3d4dDIyMDA2MDgwNzE4MDgyMy5qcGc=

The VR-100 lists a spec of 20000 concurrent sessions.

4000 came from Linksys tech support. I had issues where the Linksys would reboot itself, and they blamed it on this. Out office has 40 people. Thanks for the link.

also - looking at the Edgecore routers, they have the vr-200 there. Whats the story with those? Are they using the same software as linksys? and where would one buy that? Seems the vr-200 router is the solution to all my problems.

It looks to be similar to the RV016, but beefed up as far as total SDRAM memory.

OK - my neighbor and a good friend is a cisco CCIE - he actually got in touch with people that deal with programming of these routers. They specifically told him that Linksys cripples the connections to 4,000 - just so that Linksys does not compete with Pix and other cisco appliances.

I wonder if something like that might be a configurable setting at the CLI? It is obvious from the Edge-core specs that the RV082 hardware is capable of 20000 connections.

This hardware and firmware are produced by a third party. I would doubt that Linksys-Cisco would totally rewrite the firmware to cripple it, but might take a short cut and reduce the connections at some configuration setting.

the 4000 connections comes from the FAQ in the Manual

How many ports can be simultaneously forwarded?
Theoretically, the Router can establish 4,000 sessions at the same time, but you can only forward 30 ranges of ports.

    1. Solved the IPSec problem that tunnel connected but failed to transfer data.
    2. Enlarge the maximum NAT concurrent sessions to 20000.
    3. Using the cramfs file system to enlarge the system memory.
    4. Solved the problem that the WAN interface goes up and down unexpectedly when heavy loaded.
    5. Modified DNS module in order to solve a DNS problem occurred when connects to specific Name Server.
    6. Support the Transparent Bridge mode.
Purpose: Installing RV082 dose not need to change legacy network settings.
