I operate a small wireless internet service. I have a customer who is switching from DSL to our service. He has been using a Linksys RV082 router to handle a VPN tunnel.

The equipment that we use as Customer Premesis Equipment (CPE) is a router that has a fixed WAN IP address and uses NAT to handle the LAN side of the customer's network. We can do port address translation on our CPE. This unit doesn't support any type of VPN.

We would like anything that is on the LAN side our CPE to be either a host or a bridge. The RV082 has a feature that it calls transparent bridging. I halfway didn't expect this to work, and I have been unable to get any connectivity through this device. I was hoping to be able to connect the LAN to the WAN and then worry about the VPN.

Does anyone know if this is even possible?

You will need to bridge you CPE so the RV can handle the ip assigning and wan connection or you need to do 1-to-1 nat mapping so the CPE will pass all wan traffic to the RV or finally I belive if you can create a DMZ and put the IP of the RV as the DMZ host this might also work. The first two will work not sure about the 3rd, but in theory it should.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I can't make the CPE a bridge, It doesn't do 1-to-1 nat mapping. I will try the DMZ thing, but I don't hold out too much hope.
