Serial number of WRT54G v.2 sold in the US?

Hello, all. From reading some of the posts it looks as if the information here is mostly geared toward linksys users in Europe, but I thought I'd try posting here anyway even though I'm here in the US.

I'm thinking of losing my old 11b AP/router (BEFWS114) and purchasing a WRT54G v.2. My question is this, how can I tell I'm buying a version 2 WRT54G? The serial numbers here are different than over there (for example...7458835538853, we don't have the CDF5XXXX system here) And when I checked my local electronics store the boxes all had version 1.1 printed on the outside of the box. Though I'm not sure if I can even trust that, seeing as how it seems you folks have the problem of packaging v. 2 routers in the same boxes as v.1.1 routers. (see

Or perhaps version 2 isn't even out in the US??

    Thanks for the help!

v2 is out in the US and long before the EU. serial numbers WERE from US sources.

obviously now linksys have possible changed the format of serial numbering ?

    anyone confirm this?

Pretty much all you can buy in the US these days is v2 (unless you get it used or something on eBay). The v2 has been out in stores since early January from what I recall.

Don't worry about the box saying v1.1, there will be a v2 inside.

The strategy you can use is to look at a few serial numbers on the boxes and buy the one with the highest number.

WRT54G is out in the US, I have one, I've seen a few others at my customer site (they are issueing to VPN users for use at home).

The SN starting with CDF5xxx is true here for v2's, I have a V1 at home, its SN starts with CDF1xxx.

'Serial number' given to me by ebay seller

I went again to the Best Buy electronics store here...I saw the serial number and it does indeed start with CDF5XXXXX. Apparently the seller of the WRT54G I was looking at on ebay gave me the product number (7458835538853) that was located under the barcode and is the same for all the WRT54G AP/routers! :x

I did inspect the boxes closely as well and found the same thing going on here as in EU, the boxes will say v1.1 or v.2, but the serial numbers on both boxes start with CDF5XXXX

    Thanks for the input.
