just been looking around and decided to do the serial port mod. I got a few questions

I took some parts out of an old computer. I got a 10 Pin Shrouded Male Header only it had only 9 pins(pin 10 wasn't there) Do i need 10 pins when a serial port is only 9?

I could easily solder in a 10th pin but the doohicky(10 Contact IDC Socket Connector) that plugs into the 10 Pin Shrouded Male Headers has the 10 pin blocked.

I read somewhere that you need a thingamajig between the connection inside your router and the serial port outside the router because it will fry if you don't? Can I make one? I got an old compaq it had an amd-k6-2 processor. Anyway I just been ripping it apart and playing around with stuff. I think it was a max 233 adapter?

I got a serial port connector the thingamabob that is on the outside of the computer(9 Contact Female PC Straight Connector) with the 9 wires and the other connector that plugs in to the 10 pin shrouded male header -10 Contact IDC Socket Connector) I took directly from the computer.

I have a WRT54GS version 1.0 If anyone could point me in the right direction I am new at this that would be sweet. Maybe an idiots guide to the serial port mod.

And the Dumbest question what do I do with the mod, a way to debrick the router? Add a usb printer maybe? I like to fix stuff that ain't broke. thanks
