    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and need help with firewall-to-firewall VPN setup. I will appreciate any suggestion, step-by-step guide or link/site where I can get help setting up the VPN with static IP at one location and dynamic IP on other 2. I've basic understanding networking, WRT54 routers and firmware (NVRAM settings etc.).

    Here is what I have:
Sorry for the link, I get error when I try to upload the image here.. pls look at the link
Site 1 is my brother's house with Static IP on DSL, Site 2 is my home with ADSL and Site 3 is my Father's computer (he has dial-up right now, but would like him to be on broadband if it works) with internet connection.

I bought 2 WRT54GS (v1.0 and v1.1) almost 1.5 yrs ago and they are currently operational at Site1 and Site2. The whole thing came up in my mind recently when my father needed some help with his computer at some remote location.

Both Site1 and Site2 are running latest (4.7xx??) Linksys Stock firmware.

    What I want:
Is it possible to use DD-WRT or any other (e.g. OpenWRT) firmware with openVPN, and PPTP to have a secure virtual lan where the routers in site1, site2 and site3 always know each others status and other devices in that network are available in the same netmask?

If I need to print a file or do a remote desktop to the other site, I simply put the IP or have dns entries in all 3 locations to find each other? :???:

If it looks like more of a network question rather than router setup, kindly tell me where should I ask, so I can get help.

You're in luck. The latest built of dd-wrt has a built-in support OpenVPN. Load that on all three routers and you're all set.... :thumb:

    Not so simple with openvpn

The OpenVPN on dd-wrt v23 implements a TLS/SSL client only, not a server. According to the announcement:
So, it's not simply to load three routers with the vpn version of dd-wrt if you want an SSL VPN. PPTP is implemented as both client and server however.

I had some idea becausefrom what I read I understand that I needed 6 tunnels/channels a server/client on each of the wrt.

I don't know how could I can run a vpn server on wrt. do I have to recompile dd-wrt with open vpn to run the server.
As you can see in Site1 and Site 2 there is a linux and a w2k3 server, would it be better to setup open vpn on linux and RRAS on w2k3 server? but still what about getting into site3 box (that's where I needed to get in at the first place)..
