Slow Download Speeds

Discussion in 'Cisco/Linksys Wireless Routers' started by justincredibal, Nov 12, 2006.

  1. Well I know WiFi speeds aren't as fast as wired, but I am wondering what I can do to increase my download speeds to the speeds I am paying for.

I have a 10/2 line, and I get that when I am wired. On wireless, I am pushing to get 4/2. Is there anything I can do to increase my speed?

    I am using a WRT54G v.5 running DD-WRT Micro

Upgrading my router wouldn't be a big issue, but I really don't want to have to get a new wireless card, since the one I have is a b/g built into my notebook.

    Thanks

I would recommend doing just that, getting another wireless card. Borrow from a friend to test, it may just simply be that the internal card is not the greatest. If it is a newer laptop, last year or so the cards have come along ways, but if its older 1.5 years + then it may be the internal card. My internal card on my 3 year old is horrible at best and i have found that not all pcmcia cards are created equal.

Are you testing your wired connection with or without the router?

My download speeds are cut in 1/2 on all of my wireless connections on my wrt54g v6. Wish I still had my v3! :(

I'm hoping to find a solution as this driving me nuts.
