I'm experiencing slow connection speeds whenever I connect my laptop with my works Nortel Contivity VPN client. I can feel and see the slow VPN speeds by opening up a Remote Desktop session, RILOE/RIB board session to a remote server, and browsing work email through Outlook. The response times are so slow. I have a DSL connection that is 3Mbps down / 768kbps up which is fast enough for what I'm trying to do. If I bypass the router by connecting directly to the modem or turn off the hardware firewall on the Linksys WRT54G, then I don't see these problems. I never saw these problems before when I used to be on a 1.5Mbps line.

I'm testing with a Linksys WRT54G w/ Alchemy-V1.0 v3.37.6.8sv, 2GHz CPU, WinXP SP2, 1GB RAM, AVG anti-virus, no software firewall on which includes disabling WinXP firewall. Is there anything I can do on the router to increase the speed and still keep the hardware firewall on? I'd prefer to keep the hardware firewall on because then I wouldn't have to put on a software firewall on every computer in my network.
