ive been searching and cant seem to find a basic step by step guide to getting the router running in client mode. im using the wrt54g v2.2 with the Alchemy-6.0rc6a firmware. i do NOT want to use WDS, because id like to connect to my neighbor's AP and its not a linksys brand. ive been using a usb adapter on my laptop, but the signal is very low. i would like to use the router as a client connected to the ethernet jack on my laptop. what do i need to do?

I'll start by assuming you have permission to use your neighbor's WLAN. RIGHT? =)

All you need to do is put the router in client mode, and set the SSID and channel to be the same as theirs. I'm not sure how to configure WEP/WPA, but I would assume you just need to enter the information in your router so it's the same as theirs.

I tested mine out in client mode, and the reception isn't as good as I got with my Buffalo WLI-PCI-G54 PCI card. My Buffalo card was $35 at Fry's, it has an external antenna, and it gives me better reception than my laptop's Agere PCI card, my Linksys router in client mode, and my D-Link DWL-G810 wireless bridge.
