    I just bought myself a new WAG54G-EU Annex-A.
I've been reading alot about wireless problems caused by faulty firmware, so I wanted to see which firmware I got out-of-the-box.

And this is what I found:

    Firmware Version: 1.00.19, Nov 30 2004

Now I know that this can't be right, so can anyone tell me how my firmware got dated November 30th 2004 and have versionnumber 1.00.19? Shouldn't it have been atleast version 1.02.7?

Does anyone have any experience with this (1.00.19) firmware?
I couldn't find anything on this forum about it.

I've disabled wireless for the timebeing, but I plan on using it from tomorrow on on my other PC. Got myself the WMP54G-EU aswell..... so I realy hope this won't be a problem.

The following just came to my attention: on the main administration page of the router in the top right corner just below of where it says: Firmware version 1.00.19 the following is printed

    WAG54G V.2

Does this mean I own a different product version then you guys, and therefor have a different firmware version?

Today I'm going to test the wireless bit of my router with the WMP54G-EU, I'll let you all know if it works as it is suppose to be.

Is there a v2 written on the sticker below the router ?

Could you please post some screenshots ?

    Thx in advance...

On the bottom of the modem/router it clearly says:

    Model no: WAG54G ver. 2

Unfortunatly I haven't tested the Wireless part fully yet, only got it working for about 10 minutes then had to shutdown the machine... Tomorrow should be the day to test it for a longer period of time.

Screenshots of the will follow a.s.a.p.

    The screenshots

First the mainpage you goto when entering the router, the top right corner is the interesting part:

Secondly the Status page with the obvious blanks.... not everybody needs to see all the info in here:

I actualy found a page in the firmware you guys might not have since there is no mention of it in the manual:

Just thought it might be interesting.

Thanks a lot for the screenshots...

It seems Linksys has released a new revision of the WAG54G (it certainly explains you firmware number).

Could you please try this url on your box and let us know what you get : http://ip_of_your_wag/verizon/get_admin_info.cgi (just to guess if they change a lot in the firmware) ?

If hope they have fixed wireless drop issue with this new revision and you are right, the QOS tab is not available on my WAG (rev 1.2).

Feel free to report us your experience with wireless because a lot of us are having headache and are becoming crazy with previous WAG revision.

When I saw that the firmware was dated nov 30th 2004 I just couldn't try an update to version 1.02.7.... thinking it might be a bit dangerous/foulish to try.

Let's just say that I'm happy that they build a failsafe for updating the device with the wrong firmware... Not sure if that's making you happy though.

By the way hijglander, where did you find the firmware date on the WAG54G? I only found the rev number

You can find the firmware date on the following page:
    http://[router IP address]/Status_Router.asp

It's the same page as the second screenshot I posted.

Hijglander...what OS do you have? I have a WAG54g v2 too, but cannot access the game nor the access restrictions page.
The other pages for setting upt the box are working. The ones I have problems with just will not open. After trying to do so, the other ones are not opening any more also. So, I have to reboot the thing to access the other pages. By the way: I am not getting an error message....

Myseff, I have WXP sp2. Does anyone have the same problem? Maybe a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

I use Windows XP with SP2, and have no problems with any pages in the router, nor did I have any problems when I used Windows XP with SP1. I had to upgrade for WPA to work.

It might help if you give the router a hard reboot or even a reset to factory defaults...
Just to be on the save side, backup your router config using the following link: http://your router IP address/Backup_Restore.asp, if you have the same firmware as I then that should work.

    Problem With NEW WAG54G V.2 FIRMWARE 1.00.19

    Hello group

Just taken delivery of a brand new WAG54G v.2 today direct from the netherlands as a waranty replacment for my original 12 month old unit.

It seems to work ok. But is unable to sync the time? Anyone else with a v.2 notice this?

Well My original wag54g was purchased in jan 2004 and was a version 1. this to had the time issue and several other problems which were sorted out in the first ever release of firmware. Ive just had this replaced by linksys under waranty as I complained about all the wireless problems. Although I would say the v1.2 after my original was worse reading between the lines.

Anyway spoke to tech support last night about this time issue and thay told me to do a factory default reset. Ive done this with no luck. They told me this just to get me off the line I feel. So we are now once again waiting for a firmware upgrade to sort this out.

Today Ive noticed a coouple of other problems. Upon testing the firewall at it is showing some ports as closed and not stealth even though the firewall is enabled.

And im having problems now with the DHCP not passing valid DNS to the machines. so have had to go to static addresses.

Im now going to email them and put this v.2 back in its box and plug in the belkin f5d7632 i brought as a standby which although has less funcionality than the linksys actualy works 100%.

    Something Interesting.

If you logon to your WAG54G and look at the source code for the setup page, You will notice several enteries that have been REM/Greyed out.

Now load these into an HTML edditor and remove the REM statments and presto you get extra menu options including a Manual time setup option.

How you would implement applying these settings to the router im unsure but reckon this could be exploited.

Im now using my Belkin untill Linksys/CyberTan pull there fingers out and sort this out.

    Regards Dom

I found the manual date/time part, I'm going to try to get the router to accept it... Could take some time though.

    Thanks for the hint.

Yeah let me know when you get it to take the manual settings. I would be intrested in how it is done.

Ive got a few more problems. My wag54g is showing ports as closed and not stealth on the shields up test on

And ive had a couple of wireless dropouts whilst downloading large files. I was in the same room as the router so it wasn't a signal problem.

And now linksys aren't answering my emails anymore! Glad I brought the Belkin now! its so basic but bloody works great!

    Cheers Dom

I still haven't got the time manualy set, so bare with me this might take me some time (any help is apreciated).

I've checked my ports via the Shield's Up pages on and everything tested is either Closed or Stealth, so that's the same as you have. Even so I'm happy that non of the tested ports responded "Open".
  28. Johnston

    Johnston Network Guru Member

Well i also checked my ports and some of them showed as "closed" ... i dont like this behaviour , all non-used ports should be stealthed.

Also , i found that tftp is open by default! I had to close it manually.

Unfortunatly the trick with renaming the line "apply.cgi" to "http://[routerIP]/apply.cgi" which is mentioned in another forum topic doesn't work. So setting the time manualy is not an option here I guess.

Now we wait for the next firmware release for this baby...
Let's just hope it solves all our problems.

I have also brand new WAG54G V.2 with Firmware Version: 1.00.19 and unfortunatelly trying to use wireless. First of all it is closing wireless access every few minutes (2 to 5 minutes every sesion). I already disabled whole security (firewalls) on both sides - computer and wireless, but it does not help.

    Can somebody help me?

PS. There is no firmware upgrade for this router yet.

Can anybody tell me if the v2 WAG has a fix for the SNMP problem?

    hijglander Network Guru Member

Mine has default values, and is working fine with the wireless part.... sorry can't help you there. I've contacted Linksys about a new firmware, but they can't say when it is ready.

    @Wild_Weasel: Don't know sorry.
