I have spent an afternoon setting up a WRK54G (not WRT) router and have come across a very strange networking problem. I am using the router to setup a small network in the office off one of the LAN points. I connectected the router up and set it up with a static IP address and gateway for the company lan. Once done the internet connectivity using a pc connected to the router via cable was very slow (<Office LAN socket <> WRK54G <> PC). I replaced the router with a switch (simple 4 port netgear switch) just to get through the day and set my PC back up to the static IP. Later that day I tried to set up the router again and forgot to remove the switch so the setup was (Office LAN socket <> switch <> WRK54G <> PC). To muy surprise the whole thing worked. Whe cleaning up the cables I noticed the switch was still in the chain so I removed it and the same probem of slow speed and packet loss came back.

    Any ideas????
Can the WRK54G only take an internet connection from cable or DSL modem? Should there be a problem due to it conecting to a LAN?

Can u let us know the IP address of the LAN and the WRK54G? Is the DHCP server function enabled on the router? Did you try connecting the LAN cable to the LAN port of the WRK54G (instead of the Internet port), disable the DHCP server and assign a static IP to the router (in the same scheme of your existing LAN?)

And, do you have the f/w 1.55.02? :)

f/w is 1.58.03 which seems the one and only for WRK54G ver1.1 and Linksys have suggested flashing with the same version just forthe hell of it - will try this tomorrow in the office as well as your suggestions.

ill give the rest of your suggestions a whirl
