I believe that syslog will not use broadcast currently.

To change this is it a kernel modification, ie a rebuild?

Any reason why the original code does not support syslog broadcast?

Centralized logging is traditionally syslog UDP unicast, which is supported.

I have a syslog program which listens on one machine, successfully, if I route the log to that machines IP. (

If I set up the log to broadcast, (is this correct?), I do not see any logs, but should I, and does the linksys/tomato really broadcast?, some say it does not.

I am not sure my packet sniffer does UDP, so not sure whats going on.

setting up a syslogd -u on another system, with the router both on the above address and broadcast, shows no logs.

so either it sends TCP? or something else is wrong.

just want it to work on x.x.x.255
