I've settled up the wireless connection this way :

Like the instructiion says i connected the the WRT54GS to the PC and started the configuration. then i've started the internet connection and plug the WRT54GS as in the instruction.

Then i disconnect the WRT54GS and the modem and placed them in another room at ground floor. When then i've connected the usb adaptor to the laptop, i got the signal but no internet, unless i don't go on the desktop PC and lunch the browser... Please note that now the Desktop PC is also connected wireless with the USB adapter, but from here the internet is found immediately.
However the seting in the control panel are on Internet connection always available (i have a PPPoE connection...)

What can i do? normally if the Router and the modem are on, and on the router the Itnernet led is green, i should get the internet in the laptop immediately, without having to start the desktop pc...

    thanks for your collaboration...
