While Tomato is not as feature-rich as some of its more bloated cousins, *cough* DD-WRT *cough*, it is by far the most stable firmware I've ever used. Now, if Tomato could implement some of DD-WRT's best features (i.e Multiple SSID, VLANs, etc) without adding too much bloat, then we'd have ourselves a TRUE winner. To me, stability in a router is much more important than features, which is why I'm faithful to the orangy-red fruit :)

I would imagine that stability and temperature may have a lot to do with what hardware you run. On the Buffalo I have no issues with either. Not on Tomato and not on dd-wrt.

My two biggest limitations to uptime is 1. the power company and 2. my incessant need to experiment with builds and features. If I'm not rebooting a router after a firmware upgrade or setting, the power company is doing it for me. At home I installed a UPS 21 days ago and haven't played with the firmware in that many days either and have no issues with stability.

That said, IMHO dd-wrt writers are not as conservative as Jon and subsequently release a lot more lemons than Jon does. I do recall where Jon went through a flurry of builds after 1.07 when he tried upgrading some modules and it took a while for things to stabilize again. I think because of that he will be slower to release new features.

If the new features deployed in the mods branches withstand the test of time, I can see them making their way into the mainstream. That however doesn't always hold true as VPN has yet to make it into the mainstream.

Anyway... we digress. Back to the original topic of temperature, I would like to see scientific evidence of lower temperature rather than just anecdotal evidence.
