Tomato Configuration advice

Right now I have 3 WRT54G (all v4 or under). I have DDWRT v22 on two that are acting like wireless bridges, and v23SP1 on the main router.

The wireless bridges work, but not very well. I had to do some strange commandline configuration to get them to work (over 2.5 years ago) and they still don't send broadcast packets, and only a minimal amount of info gets through.

So my main question is does Wireless Bridge mode work well in the Tomato firmware? I don't want to lose the limited functionality that I have. Would WDS be more reliable/easier to use? I have heard that WDS takes some of the bandwidth to do its magic. In the best possible worlds, I'll be streaming video (between ReplayTVs, and from a MythTV box) over this. Minimal functionality of the Replays getting validation information is required. I don't particularly need the extra range of WDS.

    Thanks for your help.

Well Chris, at the risk of invoking another in-depth discussion of WDS vs. WET, assuming you have this (WET=Wireless Client Bridge in dd-wrt)

    PCs_and_stuff--wired--WET- - -wireless- - -AP- - -wireless- - -WET--wired--PCs_and_stuff

you won't lose any significant bandwidth to this:

    PCs_and_stuff--wired--WDS- - -wireless- - -AP- - -wireless- - -WDS--wired--PCs_and_stuff

as you don't have any single radio repeaters relative to the WET setup.

Can't say that I ever had problems with WET mode in either Tomato or dd-wrt (v24), but then I usually don't stream over wireless.

Why don't you just save your current configuration, and then try Tomato or WDS or something. If you don't like it, you load your v22 dd-wrt again and restore the config.

Yeah, thanks for the suggestion... What I'm worried about is that weird command line configuration that I had to do. I don't remember much of what I had to do to get it working back then, it has been almost 3 years... I'm fairly certain that I won't be able to find the post I referred to... :)

Thanks for the WET endorsement tho... Unless I get others saying that WET doesn't work, I'll probably just go ahead and do it. If I upgrade and I only have the functionality I currently have it will be ok.
