Trouble connecting using any encryption...

I have been using Tomato for about a year...maybe a little less. The latest I have is 1.15.

Ok for the issue. For some reason, my laptop will connect wirelessly without encryption. I can filter mac address and will work (including its mac of course). But as soon as I try to put ANY type of encryption to the router the laptop wont connect...Of course I change my settings on the laptop as well!

It won't connect with WEP, WPA, WPA2 enterprise or personal. nothing. I don't want to keep running without encryption...

I had had dd-wrt on the linksys before but had trouble with my Wii connection so switched to tomato and all was well. As a matter of fact the laptop USED to connect wirelessly with encryption. It stopped working on one of the upgrades, but Ill be damned if I remember which one. What would happen is it would just get Limited or Low Connectivity about 10 times a day. So I switched to mac filter with no encryption. That worked so I stuck with it for a bit. But now I can't get it to even connect at all.

This is driving me crazy. I upgraded to tomato 1.17 to see if that fixes it, but nothing so far. I erased nvram and rebooted a couple times.

I realise that my wlan might be faulty, but why would it connect under one situation but not another?

Wireless driver of your laptop, or the supplicant - upgrade that. Assuming XP on your laptop, there's an MS supplicant fix for getting WPA2. Even if you don't (want to) use WPA2, I'd recommend getting that, then running WPA Personal with AES encryption.

If you have a VERY old adapter in the laptop, it may only support WEP and WPA/TKIP.

Also, delete ALL wireless networks shown by your laptop, and then re-discover. Windows often gets confused, and cannot fathom that a wireless network that used to be unencrypted is suddenly encrypted.

This is what I found. Works fantastically! I just don't understand why it had been working fine, but all of a sudden it stopped working...effing windows. I have been toying with putting a linux distro on it but it's the wifes laptop really and I don't want to confuse her!

either use the WPA fix (microsoft link above) or use the proprietary wireless driver for your laptop and disable MS wireless config zero

Have you loaded any "Microsoft Security update for...." lately?
