I have two laptops that I use at two different locations (my apartment and my parents' home).

My parents have Linksys wireless Router BEFW11S4.

I my apartment, I have a new Linksys wireless Router WRT54G.

Wireless connection works fine at both. However, I am having trouble sharing files with the router in my own apartment (WRT54G).

At my parents home (BEFW11S4), my two laptops share files (and a printer) without any issues.

At my apartment (WRT54G), I am unable to share files between the same two laptops. When I go to a DOS prompt (start/run/cmd), I can ping the two computers, which makes this even stranger.

Is there any setting that I need to change on my new Linksys Router? Since the file sharing works fine with my parents' router, I think the issue is the new router in my apartment. I also have a networked printer which I can't get to work.

Would appreciate any insight. Many thanks!

    AP Isolation

Try turning AP ISOLATION off. It prevents wireless users from talking to each other. At your parents, you are using a wired connection so you don't have this problem--is my assessment.

Thanks for your reply. No luck though.

The AP Isolation is actually off (default setting). Also, the file sharing is not working even with the wired connection straight router.

Very strange. File sharing works fine with my parents' router and doesn't work at all with my router (wired or wireless, same two computers...).

Also, tried to turn off XP firewall on both computers. Still doesn't work...

I can ping the computers without a problem. I run ipconfig, get the IP address and then ping both laptops (4 sent and 4 received is message I get back).

So, no firewall, ping works fine, share files using a different router. It must be something with the new router in my apartment...
