I had to reformat my hard drive on my Toshiba laptop and now I'm unable to connect to the internet. My ip provider says that sometimes when you reformat your hard drive you have to make setting adjustments in your router in order to connect back to the internet. I have tried everything including disabling my firewall. When I hit repair it always comes up ACQUIRING IP ADDRESS and that is far as I can go. I have a wrt54gs router. Does anybody no about this, I really don't want to call Linksys.

    Thank you

    lets clarify a few things...

    1) Are you trying to connect to your router using the ethernet port, a built-in WIFI card, or a Wifi PC Card?

    2) Is your network device on your laptop working properly? Did you re-install the drivers for the device after the reformat? Does it show up properly under Hardware/Device Properties?

    3) What operating system are you using on the Toshiba?

    4) I assume you have other computer(s) connected to the internet through your router which are working properly... You might want to make sure that the settings are the same on your laptop
    TCP/IP settings

    5) Have you tested your laptop on another network, try to isolate if the problem is with your laptop hardware/settings or with your router

    6) If you are using WIFI, you might have a problem with the Wireless Security Settings...
