    hi all
    newbie here.
im a student and live in university accommodation.

currently i can only connect to internet via a cable directly from my computer. i would like to connect to internet via wifi.
so i got my good old LINKSYS router, which has tomato firmware installed.
but once i connect to the internet through it, the stupid service provider tells me that they have detected a router and it doesnt allow me to get on the ineternet.

    is there anyway around this?
can i spoof something so that they think its a pc connecting.

could it be that they recognise the mac address of linksys and block it? can i spoof the mac address in that case?

well i figured out how to spoof the mac address.
( need to go to basic>click on the mac address hyper-link and there you can have fun)

i thought it would be useful that i post the message that provider sends me.
    Router Detected!

It looks like you are using a router or similar device to connect your computer to our networkThe device appears to be performing Network Address Translation (NAT), which is used to allow multiple computers to share one connectionSharing a connection in this way is against our Terms Conditions of servicePlease remove any devices between your computer and the wall socket and start the sign up process again.

Please also ensure you fully understand the Terms Conditions displayed later on in the sign up processin particular clause 3.1.7.

you believe you are receiving this message in error or need general assistance please contact support on 0845 123 8710 and quote 'NAT09'.
they seem to say that they can detect it through NAT behaviour.
i have disabled NAT and UPnp too but i still get the same message.
(fell free to call them and swear at them )

What about letting the university network provide DHCP, and your router, just wireless? Clone your mac address of the computer you were connecting to the net, your laptop?

Is your Linksys tomato compatible? Easy to setup this then too.
