I have a buffalo Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router and I'm trying to upgrade to the latest firmware. Currently I have 1.13 installed and it works great, so I may not upgrade yet because the changelog isn't that big of a deal for me, so it's not too compelling of an upgrade. However, I would like to know this for future reference.

Once I unzip the file, there are several files, none however matching my router. These are the .bin files that are extracted

All of those except the top one, which I don't recognize, appear to be linksys models. Which file would I select as the upgrade to my WHR-HP-G54 router? This is the first time I've upgraded the tomato firmware and I don't want to brick my router.

You are missing the two most important files, readme.htm and tomato.trx of which the readme holds the answer to your question.

I had actually looked through that once, but after looking over it again I see the part that details which firmware goes to which

I'm not sure, because I don't use Buffalo, but I think that you must flash this .trx file. Besides how did you flash this router before if you don't know which file you should?

    From the README file

Upgrading Tomato to a new version

    • Open Tomato's GUI in your browser.
    • Click Administration, then Upgrade.
    • Select any of the firmware files.
    • Click the Upgrade button.
    • Wait for about 2 minutes while the firmware is uploaded & flashed.

You only have to use the tomato.trx file and tftp for the upgrade FROM Buffalo firmware.

There is a handy dandy whr_install.bat script that does all the heavy lifting.

Rename the tomato.trx file to tomato.bin, works for me :)

Why? The Upgrade Firmware page allows you to select all files regardless extension.

The whr_install.bat is only for first time installation from Buffalo original firmware or if you have bricked your router during firmware update.
