Hi, I do a lot of traveling. Many hotels provide wireless internet access. I've been connecting to this wireless service directly from my laptop. But I've always worried that without my own router in between, other users on the wireless network may hack into my laptop.

I'm looking into carrying my WHR-HP-G54 with me during travel, since it is pretty small in size. Is it true that from Tomato, I can use "Wireless Client" mode to connect to the hotel wireless network, and this then serves as my WAN? I can then connect my laptop to the router either wirelessly, or wired, behind the Tomato firewall? Thanks.

Just install a firewall, or at least turn on the XP firewall on the wireless connection.

Wireless client mode will give you the firewall protection of NAT, but you will need to plug the laptop into a LAN port. Wireless client does not also repeat wirelessly.
