I have been using Port Forwarding however i would like to know what the usage of Port Redirection is. Can someone tell me a real life example of how they would use this?

it's for redirecting an external port to a different port on an internal host. ie; redirecting port 23456 externally to port 80 on an internal machine's webserver

what do you mean by external port? port from a machine outside? (ie. in the net) This is the part that i dont get. What is the external port?

the external port is the port on the internet side of your router, this is "redirected" to a different number port on a specified internal computer.

so for example, someone is trying to contact your webserver inside your LAN. As far as their browser knows it is port 80. However you might set your server's HTTP server on port 5678 for example. So then you redirect external port 80 to internal port 5678

    IS this the case?
