I have been having problems with uploading files to my web space provider using FTP. I have been able to connect and see files on the remote server but have had trouble with files uploading. The FTP clients just fail early, just uploading a few hundred bytes if anything.

Having worked through the problem it seems that having ZoneAlarm personal firewall on my PC is conflicting with the router. If I take the router firewall down it makes no difference but if I take the ZoneAlarm down the FTP works fine. If I use a direct connection without the router and ZoneAlarm up FTP works fine. Linksys support took me through enabling DNZ and making the MTU smaller but I think they were going down a dead end.

I know the simple solution would be to disable ZA firewall every time I want to FTP files but if anyone has an idea to save me doing this I would appreciate it.

You can try adding the ip of the destination you are trying to ftp to your trusted sites.

    Hi Bluedog

I have tried your suggestion but it has not solved this problem. Thank you for considering it.

and zonealarm is not blocking your FTP application? If you are not sure, try removing programs from your allow list then try the ftp, hopefully you will get a "do you want to allow" this program to access...

Try switching your FTP client to work in passive mode :)
