Hi, recently i bought a Playstation 3 and i've been having network problems with the ps3 and my router. I've been getting error codes and such and people have said i need to create a static IP for my PS3 so i can either forward ps3 ports to it or put the ps3 in DMZ.
My question is... How do i make a static IP for my PS3, with the WAG200G?

Set static IP on your PS3 it is possible and the best solution with wag200g.

Wag200g dosen't support static dhcp adresses.

setting static ip on a ps3 is not that hard so that you gotta buy a new router! Anyway, use an alternate firmware that allow static ip adressing, you'll find that onto the forum

Ah... Is there an official Linksys firmware that i can update to which allows DHCP reservations or do i have to use unofficial firmwares?

And if there isnt official, will Linksys release an offical firmware with DHCP reservation?

    Lookup woytekm for alternative firmware.

Unlikely Linksys will ever fix this in low end routers, was a reason I first tried Hyperwrt on my old WRT54GS.

I guess it is a marketing decision, or no technical person in Linksys firmware development ever uses port forwards!

Ahh ok, well how safe / secure is this alternative firmware woytekm?
Because i dont want my router bricked or anything like that :S

Any woytekm users wanna post some feedback?

I'm using the woytekm firmware on my WAG200G and it works like a charm! DHCP reservation works like it's supposed to, as does port forwarding/triggering, etc. I also use the remote management feature a lot. The bandwidth monitor is a very useful feature too.
