    Linksys WAG54G v1.2 firmware 1.02.7.

I recently changed firmware to 1.02.7 and updated my laptop wireless drivers to support and use WPA, but I am pretty sure it is WPA causing the issue here.

Anyway, wireless is fine for the most part. When I am connected, the signal strengh is full and excellent anywhere in my house.

If I don't use the laptop for a while, I cannot get a wireless connection. The best I get is limited connectivity but no IP address. In these times the signal strenght shown in available networks is really low. A connection reapir typically failed. Initially I was rebooting the router which got things working again - laptop in same posisition I would connect with full excellent signal again.

At this point I dismissed DHCP as once reconnected I could release and renew my DHCP address no problem.

I read the FAQ and changed a few settings for symptoms of poor signal - I am now set to 802.11b only, back on channel 11 (tried others no difference), RTS Threshold and Fragmentation Threshold 2304 and Beacon Interval 50.

However this has made no difference - after more than approx a day of activity I cannot get connection - this time, instead of a router reboot, I configured the laptop with a static IP - I instantly connected with an excellent full signal!!

So what is up with DHCP with WPA?

    Anyone else get this?

Can I change lease settings to make this better?

With 1.02.7 the DHCP server doesn't work correctly !
    It must be disabled...

If you need DHCP serveur, you have to use 1.02.9 at least !

Arrrrrre now you tell me!

I am pretty confused now :( In many threads on this forum people are recommending 1.02.7 as the best firmware version for a v.12 WAG54G and it's the latest beta available on the Linksys FTP!

Is there a list of known issues with 1.02.7 - to recommend the firmware with such a glaring bug as DHCP not working correctly and not mention is cruel!! (Not having a pop at anyone).

If there are later versions then great, as intenet access restrictions do not work either in this version.

So where can I get 1.02.9 or later, which is the most reliable and are there known issues with these versions too?

If I get no joy, I am going to ditch Backup and Restore functionality and being able to get my SNR via SNMP and go back to my original Linksys release firmware!!

I've never said the 1.02.7 is the best !

As, all the firmwares are full of bugs, this one is not the worst ! :drinking:

I have no major problem with it because I have given the good parameters... :D

I think I'm likely to go back to my original non beta firmware!

Where can I get the versions you speak of that are later than on the Linksys ftp site?

I tested all the following firmwares :

    I repeat : I prefer 1.02.7 only because not too bad !

By the way, understand that :
Linksys is not capable to :
    1. register and fix efficiently the bugs
    2. register and respond to enhancement demands
    3. produce good official firmwares clearly documented

IMHO you should not waste your time!
Ask product service support to replace with WAG54G ver. 2
Some ver. 1.2 has WiFi problems and it seems no firmware would help if your WAG has as presume HW problems as presume.
I bought 2 pcs WAG54G ver 1.2 and only one had all the time problems with WiFi. After 3 trials to repair the problem by the service they finally gave up  and replaced with ver. 2.
I'm happy now. WiFi problems are gone.
BTW since when equipment malfunction is a user's problem?
Do you often upload new firmware to yout TV set or hair dryer?
That's what I finally told to the service guys.

    What ?
You replaced your Wag by a hair dryer ?
Mine is a very good toaster !

In one thing you are right.
My troublesome ver. 1.2 had more to a hair dryer than to stable router.

In any case the WAG V1 or V1.2 wireless connection is more stable with wep than with wpa. Also setup a fix tx rate (in Auto mode the wireless crash if the reception level become too low)
