I ordered a new WAG54G over the weekend but after browsing the internet to get a bit of info prior to delivery I came acros this and other sites which seems to report a lot of problems with it.

Is it a workable / manageable product or should I cancel the order before taking delivery and save myself a lot of hassle?

Now that I have got my WAG54G up and running after problems not caused by the router, can I ask why you guys have such an obviously low opinion of the Linksys? I understand the earlier models had some problems but the Version 2 with new firmware is OK, is it not?

    Simple :

My first WAG was unable to synchronise ADSL !
My second was unable to start the wireless signal !
My third stops the wireless since summer (temperature issue) !

I don't know yet what my fourth will do but in all cases either I'm very unlucky or the product is not reliable.

However, with all of bugs never fixed by the Linksys firmwares, I'm sure now that Linksys takes the customer for a ride !

netgear have the same shi... support.

i had different routers and pcmcia cards, and most of them never operate as they should. firmware upgrade fix something bug bring other issue and so one. netgear sucks!

I haven't stopped in here in a while (my wrv54g works "perfectly" now since I figured out and posted quickvpn setup rules) but I found nothing wrong with my WAG when I was running it. Mine is a ver 1.2 running firmware ver. 1.01.06. Using that version there were "NO" issues at all.

The one thing I did notice was my ftp server took longer to connect with the WAG54G but when I put my WRV54G online, it connected instantly (a remote user verified this for me also). I'm sure if I reconfigure a few settings, I can increase the performance ratio of the WAG, but why?? It works fine. *heh* I'm thinking some of you "hot rod" users may want to "throttle" back a bit on beefing so many settings at once and watch what's happening "one setting change at a time" because the WAG is a pretty good little router for its price...

For what it's worth, the WAG54G is a good unit to purchase if you want a unit to complain about, to hug when your feeling cold (it gets very hot) and to learn how to perform constant firmware upgrades, the upgrades always give you bigger headaches!

When it works it's fine, apart from the wireless performance, lack of support, occassional reboots (never experienced one myself but a lot of other people have reported them) and a bad colour scheme!

I use WAG54G-EU V2 without problems with the latest firmware.

The only thing it misses is that it it not working with Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G.

    Good luck with it.
