WAP54G won't retain new password

I have a Linksys WAP54G wireless access point connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 4 port wired router. Before updating the firmware from 2.07 to 3.0 on the WAP, the unit would not retain a new password. Every time the new password was entered and saved, it always reverted back to "admin". I updated to the new firmware, reset the WAP (held in reset button for 60 seconds) and shut it down for another 60 seconds.
Now, when I change the password, the WAP won't allow me to login using the new password or "admin". The only way I can get back into it is to reset it which WILL allow me to get in using "admin", but then it has to be reconfigured.
After trying for a couple of hours, I reset and reconfigured it and left the password as "admin", but I want to change it. Any ideas? Thanks.
