WDS - cross compatible with Thibor and DD-WRT?

Hello, I need to link up my two WRT56G's. My problem is that one is V3 and the other the dreaded V5 (yay for e-bay).

I currently have Thibor 15c loaded on my v3, and stock firmware on my v5. I am planning on connecting the two over WDS, unless I can convice the person I am trying to reach no to use wireless (I say this b/c I understand that you can only serve up wireless from the 2nd router when using WDS...is that correct?)

    So, my request is two-fold:
    1) Do I need to have the same firmware on BOTH routers in order to accomplish WDS?
If so, what's my best option (Seeing as I have a V5 router)

    2) If I can convince the guy on the other side to accept being wired into the router, what are my other options? (e.g., Client mode, WET, "bridging")

I've been trying to glean all I can from the forums, but I can't seem to logically piece together all the information about all the different methods. If someone can give me a quick run-down I would very much appreciate it.

lazywds is enabled in wrt firmware's by default. i don't have a v5+ to test this version i'm afraid, but they would've kept the feature to ensure compatibilty with other Linksys devices that use it.

So, how would I go about configuring this up? Are there any tutorials or places the tell you how to set it up? My main router is the v5 that has the Linksys firmware. The one I'd be extending the network to would be the v3 that has the Thibor15c firmware loaded up. Would I need to change anything on the "Parent" router (v5).
