We don't have an internet connection - can we use WRT54G?

The salesman at Staples assured me that although our small office (1 desktop, 1 laptop) doesn't have an internet connection that we could still use the WRT54G (not sure of the version, sorry) to share files and such. I know, I know, asking a salesman about technology is like asking a 3 year old to explain advanced physics theories. Hooked it up, went through the setup process, but I get caught up when it says it is saving my settings and then begins testing for an internet connection. Obviously, there is none so I can't go any further in the installation procedure.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get it to work without having net access? I've been on hold with the Linksys people for over 30 minutes twice in the last 2 days but I guess they're all really busy. I also am having trouble accessing their website for more information. Thanks.

I suppose you are talking about the set up of your PC network connections, I can't think of anything that would stop your WRT set up.

For the PC network setup, if you are using one of the Windows wizards normally they give you the option at some stage to do it manually, and then you select the option of an internet access available permanently on the LAN (or something like that).

Thanks a lot for the help. I was able to get both computers to briefly recognize the unit this morning but then one crashed from an unrelated issue and I'm having to work on that one now.
