Well, that ends MY subscription !

Today, I happened to peruse the Sveasoft website, as I occasionally do, hoping to uncover news of the much anticipated "Hotspot" version of Talsiman. Today, I finally came across some news, though FAR from what I had hoped !

"Talisman/Hotspot will be based on a shared billing model for anyone charging for Hotspot use and an advertising model for anyone offering free access. If you charge, Sveasoft receives 5% of the gross proceeds. If you do not charge we add a small Google banner to the bottom of your splash page. Hopefully folks will find this an acceptable model and Hotspot use will grow rapidly. "

Seems like the ONLY firmware NOT on a "open source" model has once again found a new and exciting way to dip into one's pocket. After a years wait, and having paid $20 for it's "subscription" for firmware of questionable quality, James of Sveasoft has sprung this upon its subscribers with little warning.

Sorry, James.......I believe I will let my subscription to your "site" lapse. Given that there are MULTIPLE FREE versions of firmware, most of which FAR less "buggy" than your version of the firmware......I believe I will migrate to them, rather than waste any more time with YOUR less-than-adequate firmware.

    Bye, James !

I've been IP banned from sveasoft for making a comment in reply to a flame.

The flame was something like "im suing you!" and my reply was something like "Well, I hope the guy is serious."

Subscription revoked before my paid period ended, I emailed them, no response, to which soon after I had been banned by IP. Sveasoft.com doesn't even resolve for me anymore. I cant resolve it with paypal because its after 30 days.

And now he's going to pull this crazy sh*t. Makes me glad I switched to -tofu.

At the present rate that nasty Jimmy Ewing is producing his very poor firmware it's probably a mute point about whether he does this or that to it, because I will be too old to care and the hardware will have long been superseded. How long will it be before everyone can see that all his promises are just pie in the sky to attract gullible people to pay him more money?

I have since moved on to DD-WRT and find it infinitely better than the Sveasoft firmware has ever been.

    UPDATE !

Well, Gentlemen.....an update upon my original posting of a couple days ago :

Having vented some of my disappointment regarding Sveasoft's efforts to dig even deeper in the pockets of his subscribers regarding his "Business Model" concerning his "upcoming" release of his Talisman/Hotspot......I purused his web site once more today to see if OTHER subscribers had succeeded in changing his mind in this matter: after all, I had purchased a subscription and have a RIGHT to do so, at least until my subscription expires, wouldn't you think ? Evidently, Sveasoft thinks otherwise !

"Your access to Sveasoft has been revoked.
Please contact the webmaster or board administrator for more information. "

Evidently, James of Sveasoft seems to feel he has some sort of God-given right to censor discussion not only on HIS site, but also the right to censor discussion on OTHER Web sites ! In doing so, he evidently ALSO feels he has some sort of right to STEAL peoples money without repercussion or consequence.

Well, all I can say, James : If I can discourage even ONE person from falling victim to your style of theft, by posting on this site and others....... Well, that makes that loss of $20 well worth it, don't you think, James ?

Wait, you got banned from that site after your post on this site or because of a post on the Sveasoft forums? Sveasoft subscribers should know never to use the same username/contact info to register for Linksysinfo, etc. and Sveasoft's forums. This kind of stuff inevitably happens

EDIT: By the way, you should definitely move over to DD-WRT. I haven't used Sveasoft firmware since Satori, but I'm definitely not missing anything. If not DD-WRT, there are still a lot of other truely open source projects out there that are better than Sveasoft

Nope, Never posted a WORD of dissent on Jame's web site. As a matter of fact, my LAST posting on the Sveasoft web site forums was gushing praise for his latest "Devsnap" firmware versions, as it corrected a great many bugs of the released version of the Talisman firmare (v1.1). ( But introduced a whole HOST of other "bugs", not known by me at the time I praised his software)

The ONLY dissatisfaction I vented was SOLELY on this Web Site forum.....Therefore, either James peruses THIS site for "evidence" of dissention, a subscriber to THIS site notified Sveasoft of my "dissention", or one of the MODERATORS of this site informed James of my "crossing of the line".....

As to the SECOND issue you raise, not to use the same "username" on both sites......it is not my nature to go skulking around "bad-mouthing", using aliases to hide my identity.... I had an issue with Sveasoft, and I am not going to hide from James, or anybody else. $20 doesn't mean THAT much to me !

James/sveasoft has been known to lurk around linksysinfo doing exactly what happened to you. If he sees a subscriber posting something negative about his firmware or company, they get banned from his site. That's just the way he operates.

Just to clarify, the moderators here have nothing to do with sveasoft and are 1st class in my book. The only thing the mods don't like is flaming or other such things. The have stayed nuetral on the whole sveasoft issue. sveasoft did get banned from here on account of such actions as you mentioned earlier. I'm sure most have already concluded a long time ago, sveasoft will always be in the lurk to snuff out any negative postings. Its a shame, good firmware bad practices.
