With the default transmit power rate of 28, and out of a setting of 0 to 250, what would be the best rate to set that will not tax out the circuits but give you a strong receive and transmit sigmal between the router and a notebook?

I have the setting at 38 (ten digits above default) right now, and really notice no difference in the average signal and quality percentage setting on my WRT54GS version 1.0 router over it being set at the default 28 figure.

Any and all opinions are welcome!

I suggest using the lowest setting that gives you good signal in the locations you use your laptop. The laptop will give you the signal strength so you can use that as a guage. Once you have a good signal, increasing the power will do nothing but extend your signal farther into the street and your neighbors homes.

Thank you for your comeback. That makes sense...I'll pare it down to the default 28 and work up in increments.

Thanks for the good advice. Much appreciated!
