What to replace my faulty WAG54G with?

I have been having problems with my WAG54G (v1)- keeps losing wireless network and need to reboot unit to get wireless net back.

Anyway. I've spoken to Linksys and they said to send it back to point of purchase since it's faulty.

Should I replace it with the WAG54G v2 or get a refund and get the WAG354G-UK? Or should I get some other router altogether?

I suggest you to replave with a v2 much more powerful and stable than a v1.
Note the 354g is an entry point with less fonctionnalities (no VPN, no WPA radius, etc.)

If you are not geting rid of the WAG and can live with an ADSL modem I would buy a WRT54GS and use the WAG as modem only.

Without doubt the WRT is much better than the WAGV2.

At some point when 'N' kit is ratified I intend to do something similar with my WAG V2. Linksys have done nothing to make me feel any sense of loyalty but I'll wait to see what is about in a year or so.

    Totally agree with DavidC,

Actually from my expirience, WAG54G V1/V2 is not worth what have you pay with, coz it basiclly a modem + wireless router. Why not just get a 3rd party xDSL modem + linksys WRT54G / GS !!

    Hey guys, that's different !
    You're comparing a horse and a cow !

A WRT + modem is more powerful but more expensive and more complex than a simple WAG 2.0 !

The choice depends of the usage !
Try to get milk from a horse !

WAG54G V2 is a crap in our country, coz they have compability issue with DSLAM,it can't get a sync light stable. A modem + a seperated wireless router is more powerfull, but not as expensive as a single WAG54G V2 in our country.

In malaysia there is only one ISP monopoly the broadband market. They have alot of different IP DSLAM. Different area different brand. Commently use is Nokia and motorolla.

Recently they slowly switch to broadcom ADSL2/2+ DSLAM. As what i found out, which ever the modem is using the TI (Texas instrument) chipset will be having ADSL Sync issue. It basically hardly to get the signal sync. We try load different firmware, end up still the same resault.

That y in malaysia we suggest customer buy a modem and wireless router seperately. So if there is a incompability issue, they only need to change the modem. Not all, coz WAG54G V2 in here selling RM480+- , WRT54G RM235+-, Genaric ADSL modem = RM130+- .. so it still cheaper compare user buy All-In-One and seperated solutions.

WAG54G V2 is OK in France, even with strong attenuation (63 db)

    Thanks for the info.

I'm getting it replaced with a V2 and hopefully changing the USB adapter to a PCI one.

...well, eBuyer has given me a refund instead of a replacement. doh!

If I get a PCI card with 'Speedbooster' technology, will this work with a standard WRT54G (non-speedbooster)?

Also, where's a nice cheap place to get a WAG54G and a linksys wireless PCI card from? Any recommendations? Don't want to spend more than I've been refunded really :)

    Thanks again,

Just had a quick look about - the wag54g is often not given as a product option for LS products i.e. its now obsolete!!

The King is Dead - Long Live the King - well for the next 6 months MAX!!

best option buy as cheap as pos. now with the promise of better later!

    Don't be sorry HISPEED,

I still have two and a bit years warranty on my V2 - but look arround the web sites 'g' is dead 'srx' is the new linksys king. any sites listing the WAG54G's we have are invariably out of stock. (if listed at all)
I think this accounts for the lack of official Linksys stable firmware upgrades (curently NONE when I last looked 20/11/05 - UK/EU version - beta's don't count). Even the EU beta FW's are not listed on the LS FTP site - what does that say?

But hell it works to my current needs so who cares - not LS it seems and I'm not going to lose sleep over it

    see ya!

I think G is not dead because SRX is not a standard !

    I agree, WAG54G is obsolete as WRT54G 4 is, but WAG354G is worse as WRT54G 5 is !
