Hi. I read the benefits on your site about using the older versions of WRT54G or GS. I also read to not get the latest versions of those two models. I check locally at best buy, wal mart, staples, and radioshack but only found the recent versions in which is not a linux OS networking device. I see a lots of deals for those two models in the advertisements but I actually want the older versions. Besides ebay, any other places where I can get those versions. I'm well aware that online sites also have these products but is no way to know which version you will be getting. I need a wireless router and I read these models are capable of running open source software. Also, its the cheapest ones out there besides the ones that cost over $100 with extra features. Should I buy the recent version anyway? Thanks for your suggestions.

Isn't GL more expensive? I saw a display box for the wrt54g model at radioshack and checked the serial number and it had CDF7. I believe that' version 2.2. The Radioshack associate claims that they have that one in stock in the back. Should I get it anyway? I read that 4.0 was the best version to get so far. What's the latest version for WRT54GL? If there are any other models that supports open source software for altering the firmware, let me know. I also need the price difference. I'm not well aware about the other models but I know the wrt54g model is popular among lots of people and also GS (not the recent versions).

What Toxic was saying is that the WRT54GL version is equivalent to the WRT54G v4.0 version. Linksys decided for some reason to make the version 5's that suck big time and branch off the version 4 into a new model. I suppose the L at the end of the version number stands for Linux.

Maybe this is why the WRT54G versions are on sale right now for $49.99 at various electronic stores.

Amazon has the WRT54GL for $56.49 after $10.00 rebate, and that one will definately work with the enhanced firmware.
