I bought a WRT54GS (with Speedbooster) one week ago.
Not be willed to use a standard firmware I flashed the HyperWRT as well as the Sveasoft Alchemy firmwares.
Having a pppoe connection problem I decided to flash an original Linksys firmware.
While beeing confused which firmware (Speedbooster v1.0 or v1.1) I looked on the buttom side of the router to verify the version I have.

You can´t imagine how suprised I was ...
On the metallic black/silver label on top there stood "Linksys WRT54GS" with several S/N numbers, etc.
On the right hand (a black label) there stood some other informations all ending with ....wrt54gv2.

Can anyone tell me which router I have?
Even the person at the Linksys support helpline was suprised.

Is there any way to verify the routers version (wrt54gv2 vs. wrt54gs) by using some linux commands to read out the size of the nvram (wrt54g = 16mb, wrt54gs=32mb)???

If is the ip-address of your router try the following link: It should give you the version number of the router.

    hi gheimposse,

just read the hardware autopsy on this side... you will see that the wrt54gv2 number is the fcc number you have found..

check your serial number and you will see it is a wrt54gs what version i dont know...

with the linux cmd "free" you see the mem but dont know if the firmwares will use the full memory of the gs routers..

you can also use "nvram show | more" to check your nvram values....

    i think you got a wrt54gs v1.1

    Ok ... thanks.
At the time when I wrote the first post I couldn´t remember that on the label stood "fcc". I inspected the label yesterday evening. *forgot it*
Anyway ... I was surprised cause this is an available Linksys router name not beeing the same router as the current one I own.
So let me use your informations ... I´ll come back when having news.

You have a GS v1.0. The 1.1s have "WRT54GS v1.1" as the model number and a FCC ID of "Q87-WT54G22"

    On my router stands "Q87-WT54Gv2".
    So ... seems to be a WRT54GS 2.0, isn´t it?

Can anyone tell me the difference in the versions?
Which "updates" where made between the versions?
