I have a WRT54G, not sure what version but my install disk says 2.3. I set it up so you need a password to get on, everytime I try to get on it asks me for a password and I get on fine. When friends come over and bring their laptaps they can get on without being asked for a password, so I am guessing neighbors might be using my wireless. How can I set it up to make sure it asks for a password to everyone that might try to use it? Also, is there some software that can let me know if someone else is using my wireless? Thanks for the help.

I think the password you set up was for administering the router, not for connecting.

Your best bet is going to be to go into Wireless security and enable "WPA/TKIP", picking a long password, and setting your clients up with the same security settings.

if you have XP SP1 or older (windows 2k etc) your going to have to use WEP, 128 or 64bit.
