Why is my RV082 slower than my netgear router?

I have an RV082 that all of a sudden just started giving terrible performance. like 182k. I trouble shot it with Linksys. Then I got fed up, told them I wanted to send it back. In the meantime, I went out an picked up a netgear VPN router which screams at 4.6Megabit. I got the new router Linksys shipped, and it is a WHOLE lot better than my old one, but does about 2.5 megabit as opposed to the netgear 4.6 megabit.

What gives?? A 89.00 router is better than the 300.00 rv082?

    RV082 slower than WRT54G

I have a similar problem. My new RV082 is slower than my WRT54G

My speed on the WRT54G is about 2.5mbps with the RV082 it is only .9 to 1.2 for the same Charter Cable connection. On the other hand the bandwidth of my T-1 connection is 1.2mbps on both a BEFSR41 and the RV082.

This is true even if the RV082 is setup for only a single WAN connection.

    Anyone got any ideas?

No I have not tried to contact Linksys about this. I have used a dozen or more of their routers but their support sucks.

I've setup a few RV0 units...I can say that I've not found where they limit the speed at all...I've not personally had them on a connection faster than 10 megs...I sometimes use an RV082 at home on my 6 meg cable...I peg my cable...6200 down..same as if I use IPCop, my ISA2K4 box..or a computer plugged right into my Motorola 5120.

THe latest firmware, 1.3.2, which came out about a month ago...was supposed to drastically increase the performance..the unit can now match max wired throughput...200 megs. When the unit first came out...I saw a benchmark with the original firmware...by a 3rd party neutral site that did benchmarks on many routers...the 082 still hit 20 megs. Again..old firmware...it's been improved a lot.

I've setup a looooooooot of routers on my job...I've upgraded a lot of routers to these RV082/016 units at many clients of mine. They're excellent...rock solid, fast, stable, etc.

Oh yeah...manually adjust your MTU..don't use auto.
1492 for PPPoE DSL, 1500 for bridged DSL and cable.
I always do that regardless of the brand of router..I don't believe in MTU auto-adjust.
