Wifi keeps dropping?

I've been running v1.23 on a WRT54G for about a year. For the most part it works fine. But we have definite problems with the router dropping wifi connections. At first I thought it was the flaky wifi USB dongle we use on my kids' computer (the Tomato router runs only my kids' wifi), but today my wife mentioned she has the same problem if she hooks into their wifi, and my son says his iPod Touch also has troubles.

The signal is strong enough, usually 2-3 bars. But the wifi connection dies and you have to disconnect/reconnect to re-establish the connection.

Is this common? Is there anything I could do to help it? Would a more recent firmware release help?

Do a 30/30/30 and update to the firmware you think will work best for you. Will it work? Won't hurt. Unless you brick your router...
