I have just bought a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router and network pcmcia card for my laptop which runs Windows XP pro.
I have a US Robotics adsl ethernet/usb modem router.
Basically I want to get my laptop wireless. I also have a PC (XP Pro) and another laptop (XP Pro).
It seems that I have installed the card correctly and that seems fine. The problem is with the Wireless Router.
I have followed the instructions but although very good with computers I am a complete novice when it comes to networks.
I have easily managed to network all three computers to the US Robotics via the 2 ethernet ports and the USB port.
Please tell me how exaclty to set this wireless router up so I can use my laptop with it. I have tried all manner of cable connections and somehow even managed to get into the config page a few times but god knows how.
    Easy idiot proof walkthrough please.
    Many thanks
p.s. I am with Virgin Broadband if you can help me with the settings etc. I have uninstalled the speedtouch usb modem that came with that.

I was doing this with my cable modem at my house. I recommend would take one of the ethernet ports in the back of the cable modem, and plug it into the Ethernet port on the wireless router. That you transmit that signal to wireless and if you are running XP Pro, it should just give you status. From past experience, I just let windows configure my wireless network. I know that D-Link tends to cause a hassle when install wireless nic's on a desktop. Hope this works.

Thank you for your reply. I am not exactly sure what it is you are saying though.
I really am new to this and have no idea how to set up the systems at all. I need to know what wires go where etc.
MY US Robotics adsl modem/router has the broadband cable going into the back i.e. rj11.
It then has 2 ethernet ports and a usb port.
The Linksys wireless-G broadband router (WRK54G) has 4 ethernet ports and another rj45 port for the internet. The linksys is not a modem router so I cannot plug the adsl straight into the internet port different size connections anyway.
All I want to do is get the router working with my laptop so I can have wireless internet on it - it has the network card installed.
I have been able to get into the configuration before but I do not know what to set up in there for Virgin Broadband.
Please help someone, this is very frustrating as I can't be doing too much wrong as I have had the network card connected to the router but could not surf.

    I understand...

Yeah. It is really confusing explaining your home setup and how to get everything connected. Would you possibly be able to take pictures of your home setup? So explain each piece of networking and what ports are on the back? Actually, e-mail me. It would be alot easier to explain this through email than through these forums.
