WMP54G better signal with older drivers? (more green bars)

Hi there, I had to reformat and reinstall windows and so I did so and reinstalled the drivers off the disc which came with my WMP54g

This connects fine to the router (WAG54G) and I get 5 full green bars, excellent signal. The router is upstairs.

I then updated windows with the latest updates and it told me there was an update for my WMP54G wireless and so I did so.

This has taken it down to 4 bars, very good signal.

    All seems fine, but :

    1. should I go back to the other drivers purely because I get a better signal?

    2. Does anyone else find they get better signal strength with older drivers?

    Thanks :)

You should not use any drivers for your WMP54G from the Windows Update Site. Use the Linksys or Broadcom drivers if your WMP54G has a broadcom chipset in it.

Since I use the last Broadcom firmware ( on my WMP54G 2.0, XP shows me a signal moving up and down.
    I don't care because I have a very stable 54Mbps...
