    Hi All,

This problem has been with me ever since I've owned a WNR3500Lv2 and migrated to a non Netgear firmware (Tomato in either toastman or shibby flavours)

When I use the router upgrade page to upgrade the firmware, the upgrade fails with an 'MTD writing' error (can't remember the exact text at this time). The router then reboots to a 'safe' mode where I can then tftp the firmware image (again) which completes correctly. With this done the router reboots & runs the new firmware correctly.

Does anyone know why this happens and is a fix planned?

Hum... What's happening if you flash with a mini version of the firmware (<4Mb)?

Erm, a sub 4MB K2.6 RT-N firmware for a router with 128MB of ROM? Can you point me to such a beast for testing purposes?

i have the same problem on my router. After MTD erase error wait few seconds until power led will change to blincking green color. Then just put image one more time via tftpd. Thats all.

Ok so it's not just me then :) The upgrade process scared the life out of me the first time, I thought I'd bricked my brand new router! I then remembered the tftp trick which fortunately worked. It's a bit of a pain because I also don't use the default 192.168.1/24 subnet, so I have to change IP addresses on the box as well.

If I were clever (which I'm not!) I'd work out the difference between the netgear & tomato upgrade processes (seems to be a difference between 'write' & 'mtd-write')
