I hear that the 4th digit of the serial number (1, 2 or 4) indicates
    the version (v1, v2 or v4) of the WPC54G Wireless-G notebook adapter.
    Can anyone confirm this?

    I think I have a version 2.
The driver file under Device Manager (Win98SE) is BCMWL5.SYS
    v3.30.15.0 from Broadcom Corporation.

The driver file under Device Manager (WinXP) became BCMWL5.SYS
v3.50.21.11 from Broadcom Corporation after the Linksys NetCheck
autoupdate indicated an update was required.

Could someone using the version 1 and version 4 of the WPC54G
please post the name and version of the driver file you are using?

    Thank you.

    My box says "WPC54G v2-PKG-30903J"
The back of the notebook adapter says Ver.1.2

Did I get an old adapter in a new box?

After the Linksys Netcheck update under WinXP, the device manager says "Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster" ,
and I know I don't have the SpeedBooster version.

Maybe I should just be happy that it works.
